Congratulations to Area Champs BU14 Green Laserz

PlayersCongratulations to BU14 Green Laserz  - Area Q Champs!

The Green Lazers, coached by Brett Thurlow, played in the Area Q BU14 finals this morning (Dec 18th). They won in Kicks from the Penalty Mark 2-1 (after regular play ended in a tie).

The team now will move on to the Section Championships in February 2012. Section 11 covers Southeast LA County all the way down to San Diego and the Mexican border. Great job!

Congrats also to BU12 Orange Pandas coached by Brent Seaton for making it to the BU12 final before falling to Corona Del Mar.

Sideline coaching -- Dump the GPS and let the kids drive

PlayersA story recently appeared in the Youth Soccer Insider newsletter from Soccer America. The subject was about sideline "coaching" and parent involvement. It is a great analysis of how having too many voices on the sideline creates confusion and is worse for the development of the child player.

parents - cheer on your kids. If you think the coach isn't "doing enough" then you should have stepped up to coach. Otherwise enjoy and watch them learn and grow.

Lots of jobs - but need more help

PlayersHey there soccer fans!  The season is so close.

Did you know there are 93 different tasks necessary to run our region?

Did you know that only 8 people essentially are doing them right now (not counting coaches, referees, and commissioners).

There are so many small tasks that need to be taken care of. These are very simple but important things that keep us running. If we can get a lot of people to be able to do just a little bit of effort there will be less burden for all AND we will have a much smoother operation.

We have immediate needs for field monitors (health and maintenance of our fields) and picture day volunteers. However, there are many more. Small to moderate - we always need folks.

You may have already heard that AYSO is an all-volunteer organization. This is done intentionally to create a closer connection between those volunteers  and the children that get a positive impact from any support or effort you may give. The vision of AYSO is to provide world-class soccer environments that will enrich children's lives. Do your part if you can - no matter how small.

Contact management@aysosoccer.org if you're interested to know more.
