Mandatory Coach Certification comes to AYSO

CoachesAYSO North Irvine will be ready to offer the required certification you need to coach in 2010. This is great news because it benefits the kids with their skills and character development and will provide you the tools and information you need to offer age-appropriate training to make every practice fun and effective.

 What Sportmanship Is Not!

Playersby now most of you must have heard about the incident involving Lizzie Lambert over at New Mexico vs BYU. she is a defender on the women's soccer team that got away with way too much unsportsmanlike conduct during the match. SHe is now suspended indefinitely from all activities involved with the team.

This is a GREAT example of where our job of imprinting good sportsmanship and character on young children is probably the most important part of AYSO. It is - as we know - as child development program that uses the sport of soccer as a tool to that end.  It is the responsibility of all coaches, referees, and players to make sure that we conduct all matches and practices in a Fair, Safe, and Fun environment.

It's obvious here that the coaches of NM, the other players, and the referees missed the mark on controlling themselves. The BYU players showed great restraint to not retaliate against the player.

We hope this example of what NOT to do is a reminder that we work hard to put out a great program for our youth in Irvine. All of us in Region 213 is committed to keep up our Platinum status.

We lost a good friend and volunteer...

RegistrationTerry Venezia, a well respected AYSO referee volunteer, passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 25th. Terry has been a referee for several seasons in AYSO and his son Jason currently plays in the BU12 division. Out of respect for the family we are not reporting any details.

On behalf of all our members Region 213 would like to send out prayers for peace and strength during this sad time.  He leaves behind his widow Renee, Jason, and other children.

 AYSO Conduct Reminders

Players
Parents and Coaches need to remember that thee is a Code of Conduct in AYSO. That involves lots of things - but at it's basic level it's here

Parents Cheer Positively!

Coaches Coach Positively!

Referees manage the game using the Laws and Regional guidelines Positively!

Players PLAY with a good attitude and enthusiasm.

Parents are never to come out onto a field. Coaches are only allowed onto a field when permitted by a referee. This is the rule ALL THE TIME! Referees are trained in safe haven and have control of the vicinity of the field just before, during, and just after the match.

If parents have questions on the match or other AYSO issues they should work with their coach and not engage opponents, the referee, or other officials. Your coach is your first line of information about AYSO Activities - if they need to they will contact someone else.

Let's make sure we have a Fair, Safe, and Fun environment for ALL members of the AYSO North Irvine community.
